  • Davies: “It’s useful to have a Plan B in your back pocket”

CHRIS Davies says it’s important for Blues to have a plan B.

The club’s boss has largely been consistent in his use of formation throughout his time at St Andrew’s.

Blues have routinely used a back four – but have swapped on occasion – and the 40-year-old says that he will be considering it, going forward.

He said: “I think it’s an interesting question and something I do think about.

“My gut feeling is that to have stability with a system is more helpful in the long term.

“Over the course of a season, I think it’s good to have another one in your back pocket.

“You might have the option of going to a five – but I think it’s got to be something you know

“I remember Brentford when they went up with Thomas Frank, they had a really good 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 and they used both and they were quite good.

“I think it’s good to have another one as an option that the players know, whether that’s within a game, or between games.”

But he says it is unlikely that it will be worked on until Blues have finalised their squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

He added: “Once we’ve finalised our squad, we can see exactly what we are facing.

“For now, I think we’ve got a really strong system that worked well for us to players know it, they believe in it, it works well.

“And I certainly don’t want to come too far away from that and don’t believe we will have to.

“If anything, I think the way we play is actually more suited to the Championship than it was in League One in terms of our system – a lot of teams play a back four system in the championship more than they didn’t do in League One anyway.”
