Fears that Blues could lose Tommy Doyle in January have been allayed.
His parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers will not be allowed to recall him from his loan when the transfer window opens next month.
So it’s great news for Blues as the midfielder will remain at St. Andrew’s for remainder of the season.
Doyle made the switch to Blues during the summer as part of a loan deal.
After Wolves sacked Vitor Pereira and installed Rob Edwards as manager, there were concerns that Doyle could be back in favour in the old gold and black under a new boss.
Usually, Premier League loans have to be ratified when the January transfer window opens.
And that presents an opportunity for the parent club to call back their player.
However, it is understood that if there is an option to buy that this can still happen.
It appears that in Blues’ case there is an obligation to buy with the fee set at £5 million should Chris Davies manage back-to-back promotions.
And that means Doyle, who is in a rich vein of form, has to stay put – otherwise the terms of his loan agreement would be rendered void.
The news comes as a blow to Edwards, who would like options himself as he attempts to stamp his mark at Molineux.
Doyle took his time to force his way into Davies’ side, as the Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata axis was the manager’s favoured pair and in situ.
But Doyle has earned Davies’ faith and his forward-thinking playmaking and passing has added a significant dimension to the promotion-chasers.
