Blues are not seeking to move on misfiring striker Kyogo Furuhashi – at least just yet.
The Japanese frontman has been linked with a dramatic switch back to Glasgow Celtic, the club where he catapulted to fame.
It has been stated that Celtic have inquired about an initial loan for Kyogo, who has yet to score for Blues in the Championship since his £4 million summer move from Rennes.
Unsurprisingly a potential transfer has caused a big stir in Scotland and south of the border in the West Midlands.
Kyogo scored 86 goals in 167 appearances for Celtic between July 2021 – January 2025, bagging nine trophies with the Hoops.
But at present it’s a no-go for Kyogo from Blues end, although that could change as the January transfer windrow rumbles on.
Asked about Kyogo’s future today, manager Chris Davies said: “Kyogo is our player who has been playing more matches recently than he has done in the last few months.
“The plan is that Kyogo continues in that vein – gets his goals and gets his game moving.
“So I’ll support him to do that.
“We’ve had no discussions at the moment about anything other than Kyogo giving his best and doing his best for Birmingham City.
“Personally, I think he’s going to stay here and potentially battle through whatever comes in front of him.”
Kyogo has found the net just once – a tap-in during the 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup in August.
He has missed 12 ‘big chances’ – the joint second worst tally in the Championship. And he has the worst conversion rate in the league from 29 shots, of which eight have been on target.
Blues fans have been remarkable patient with Kyogo, often chanting his name regardless of on-field mishap.
Davies himself has cranked up the pressure, saying before Christmas that Kyogo had to start firing in front of goal.
But so far nothing has altered.
However, Davies did not rule out the matter changing during the window.
He said: “Kyogo cannot be doing any more in terms of his own efforts with the club.
“So, we’ve been supporting him. And we’ll be going along with that.
“Again though, like a lot of things we’ll obviously see as things progress through January where everyone is and make sure everyone is on the same page.
“But certainly at this moment in time, Kyogo is an important player in the squad and will continue to be so.”
