Blues are eyeing up Argentine striker Luis Vazquez for move to St. Andrew’s.

The 25-year-old was loaned by Anderlecht to Getafe in January and is up for grabs from the Belgium side.

At 6ft 2in and with a combative, ‘battering ram’ style, Vazquez has been identified to enhance the physical profile of Blues attack.

Chris Davies has spoken about the need for improving Blues height, power and effectiveness in transitions.

And in Vazquez, it looks as if Blues have hit upon a forward who fits that bill and can add presence at the top end of the pitch.

Vazquez is not a prolific goalcorer – 18 goals in 116 appearances over three-and-a-half seasons for Anderlecht.

But he has proven himself an effective focal point and his partnership in Spain with Martín Satriano has been heralded as a key driver of Getafe’s success last season, when they finished seventh in La Liga and qualified for the Conference League.

Getafe are considered a defensive, spoiling kind of side in Spain, and goals and chance creation were at a premium across the whole team. But Vazquez did his bit in making things work.

Davies is determined to remodel Blues attacking threat.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been sold to LA Galaxy in the MLS and there remain question marks over the future of Marvin Ducksch, who is currently injured.

Although August Priske was signed in January from Djurgårdens IF for £6 million and is of a similar profile to Vazquez, the Argentine is more experienced and battle-hardened.

And Blues clearly feel he has the attributes to cope in the rough and tumble of the Championship, and assist Davies’ reshaping.

Vazquez has athleticism and likes to go in behind as well as hold the ball up, keys to Blues more direct style that Davies implemented in the second part of last season.

Vazquez made his name at Boca Juniors in his homeland between 2019 – 2023, scoring 16 times in 99 appearances and winning league and cup titles.

Blues are having to work the transfer market carefully this window and Vazquez is rated around the £1.5 million mark.
