Blues manager Chris Davies still has the backing of the ownership and board.

There have been no conversations at the club about replacing him amid a sticky run of form.

Chairman Tom Wagner is believed still to be supportive of the man who he charged with leading Blues back into the Championship from League One.

However, it is understood that the leadership group is mindful of the fact that Blues have slipped from a position outside the play-offs to 17th following a winless seven-game streak.

That run comes at a difficult time following the opening of the January transfer window, which could see significant change to the squad.

Director of football Craig Gardner wants to bring in up to four new faces and is keen to shift out that many to make room in the budget.

One of those was confirmed when Kai Wagner joined in a deal believed to be valued at £2 million from MLS side Philadelphia Union.

The left-back will come in as cover for Alex Cochrane who returned to action during the 3-0 defeat to Watford, only to suffer re-injury.

But the key to any incomings will be the outgoings and that could see plenty of activity over the next four weeks at St. Andrew’s.

Blues home form has been key to their season so far.

Davies boasts an incredible record on home turf with Hull City the only side to have departed with three points in 37 league meetings.

That included going through the entire season undefeated in front of their own supporters.

And a derby victory tomorrow over Coventry City would go some way towards relieving the pressure that has been building.

While the showings at St. Andrew’s have been little short of promotion form, those on their travels bear all the hallmarks of a club battling relegation.

Blues eight-point return from 13 matches so far this season is among the worst in the division.

Only Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth have picked up fewer points – and both of those clubs are in the bottom three.

Blues go into the Sunday noon clash against the Sky Blues without key players Demarai Gray and Christoph Klarer (suspended) while Jay Stansfield and Cochrane are struggling to be fit due to injury as well.

Ethan Laird is not expected back until next month and Bright Osayi-Samuel is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

On the upside, Tommy Doyle is free from suspension, having now served a three-game ban.

These absences have come at the worst possible time for Davies and Blues amid the hectic Christmas and New Year schedule.
