Blues still intend to be busy in the January transfer window.
Chris Davies is after ‘two or three’ more players to add to his squad.
He has signed four new recruits so far – Kai Wagner, Jhon Solis (pictured above), Ibrahim Osman and August Priske.
But he keen to strengthen further, with centre-half, wideman/number 10 believed to be the areas in question.
“We have got off to a reasonable start,” said Davies, of the business so far.
“If we can . . . (they’ll) probably be another few in, two or three, would be what we are looking at. And maybe two or three would go out the other way naturally.
“There’s no guarantees of course because as the days go by you get towards the end of it (transfer window). But that’s what I am hoping for.”
Blues have an interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jeremy Sarmiento, who is currently on loan to Cremonese, but Middlesbrough seems his likely destination.
The turnover of players this month has seen the likes of Dion Sanderson, Lyndon Dykes and Keshi Anderson moved out.
Marc Leonard completed a loan move to Scottish Premiership leaders Heart of Midlothian on Friday evening and Alfons Sampsted is tipped to make a switch to Go Ahead Eagles in Holland.
The manager has made clear the intention in January has been to bring some speed and physicality to the ranks.
We got our first look at the imposing midfielder Solis in midweek at Sheffield Wednesday – where Blues secured a first away win in the league for three months – and Davies is enthused about the Colombian’s attributes.
He said: “Jhon comes in from a club and league where you know they play, in terms of possession. He will have a lot of good concepts around ball possession, his positioning, how to keep the ball well.
“But what he also brings – which was the attraction for me – is the physicality side of it. He’s a big size. You could see the other night he put his foot in, he won a few balls and then can play forward when he gets it.
“But he gives us a bit more physical presence in there. That, for me, is his greatest strength but he can play when he gets the ball. So he’s a six, or an eight. That type of player. And you got a glimpse of that the other night when he came on.”
Davies has a decision to make on which one of his loan players he will leave out of the squad on Saturday when Stoke City visit St. Andrew’s.
Only five loanees can be included in the matchday 20 and Blues have six – James Beadle, Tommy Doyle, Patrick Roberts, Solis, Osman and Lewis Koumas.
Having had just a solitary training session, Davies opted not to include Osman against Sheffield Wednesday.
With uncertainty over the future of Koumas, it could be that he drops out against Stoke to allow Osman to take his slot.
Davies admitted that ‘conversations have taken place’ with his parent club Liverpool to decide the next steps.
On the injury front, Blues have Bright Osayi-Samuel back and ready after his Africa Cup of Nations campaign with Nigeria.
Although it was speculated he came off due to an injury in their third place victory over Egypt, the right-back is fine, Davies has revealed.
So the current state of play for Blues on the casualty list is:
Bright Osayi-Samuel – fit, available
Jack Robinson – unspecified, return late February
Demarai Gray – unspecified, return late February
Ethan Laird – hamstring, return late February
Alex Cochrane – ankle, return March/April
Lee Buchanan – knee, continuing rehabilitation, return February
Davies also has Alfie Chang available again after his return from loan to Bristol Rovers, but he has so far elected not to include him in his recent squads.
