Blues have signed left-back Kristoffer Lund from Palermo.
The USA international has penned a four-year deal at St. Andrew’s.
Lund, 24, comes in as replacement for Kai Wagner, who left for former club Philadelphia Union in the MLS due to family reasons.
Strong and quick, Lund had a successful loan spell with 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga last season, but the German side opted not to activate the £1.8 million clause to make the move permanent.
So Blues moved in quickly after Wagner dropped a bombshell on them.
Lund has seven caps for the United States after he chose to switch national teams from Denmark in 2023.
The former FC Midtjylland player was selected from under-17 to under-21 level for the Danes.
A six-footer, Lund is strong in duels and has also played higher up on the left.
“Kristoffer is a player we identified for his athleticism and pace, and we believe those qualities make him a really good fit for the Championship,” Blues manager Chris Davies told bcfc.com
“He is strong defensively, tenacious in his duels and he has the physical attributes to compete consistently at this level. At the same time, he has the ability to contribute going forward, so he’ll give us another option both defensively and offensively.
“He was a regular starter in the Bundesliga last season, which is another indication of the level he’s capable of performing at, despite still only being 24 years old.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him into the group and seeing him show his qualities in a Birmingham City shirt.”
Lund’s addition provides enhanced competition on the left side of defence now as Alex Cochrane and Lee Buchanan are also Blues recognised full-back options there.
Lund was born in Denmark to a Danish father and an American mother, so thus holds dual citizenship.
Lund came through the Academy at Danish club FC Midtjylland before making his senior debut in 2021.
He had spells at Esbjerg and Swedish side BK Häcken before joining Italian Serie B side Palermo 2023.
He made 33 appearances, including 26 starts, for Koln last season.
