Knighthead have completed the full takeover of Birmingham City FC.

It’s been 14 years, but Blues are finally free of influence from Hong Kong and China.

Knighthead, through Shelby Companies Limited, have bought out Zo Future Group, formerly Birmingham Sports Holdings (BSHL), the Hong Kong based firm, who were formerly Trillion Trophy Asia.

They now hold 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited, which has 100% ownership of Birmingham City Football Club Limited and Birmingham City Women Football Club Limited.

Knighthead purchased a stranglehold on Blues in July, 2023, when they took a 45% ownership stake. They have now bought the remaining 51 per cent of shares available.

The previous owners had no influence the past two years, once Tom Wagner and Knighthead appeared on the scene. The deal the Americans struck made sure of that.

But there was always a desire to cut ties to the Far East for good – and now it’s happened.

It is the end of an incredible chapter in the history of the club.

From Carson Yeung, who got a foothold in Blues in 2007 and then took on the club outright in 2009 via Grandtop, through to Wang Yaohui – the mysterious Mr King – and BSHL and Zo Future Group, it has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride.

Blues no longer have an ownership, or part owner, who are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Chairman Wagner said: “This transaction is another important milestone for Knighthead and Birmingham City Football Club.

“Transformation has taken place across every aspect of the Club’s operations since our initial investment and it’s just the beginning.

“Later this month we will unveil our new stadium design which will be at the heart of East Birmingham’s Sports Quarter.

“The ambition for our Club is to be a beacon of excellence for Birmingham on the global stage. The journey to deliver this is well underway.”
